श्री रंगनाथ जी मंदिर
Rangji Temple
A South Indian temple in the middle of Vrindavan — gopuram, water tank, gold pillar — and completely unlike everything around it.
Built in 1851, Sri Ranganatha ji's temple is Dravidian architecture dropped into Braj: a tall gopuram, long colonnaded corridors, a temple tank, and a gold-plated dhwaja stambha. It is the largest temple in Vrindavan by area and the quietest for its size.
The Brahmotsav in March — the Rath ka Mela — runs for ten days and pulls the whole town. Non-Hindus are not permitted into the inner sanctum, though the grounds are open to everyone.
What we would tell you beforehand
- The grounds are large and shaded, which makes this a good midday stop when the rest of Vrindavan is too hot.
- Non-Hindus may walk the grounds but not enter the sanctum.
- The corridors are long and flat — easy walking compared with the old town.
