रमण रेती

Raman Reti

The soft sand at Gokul where Krishna and Balarama played as children, and where devotees still roll in the dust.

Raman Reti is exactly what the name says — the sand where the raman, the playing, happened. This is Gokul, where Krishna was brought as an infant and spent his earliest years, and the ground here is treated as the dust those feet touched. Devotees roll in it. There is an ashram and a goshala on the site, and deer wander the enclosure.

It is a gentle, unhurried place, and it is usually the first stop on a Braj yatra because Gokul is where the story begins.

What we would tell you beforehand

  • The sand is deep and soft. Not easy in a wheelchair, and slow going for anyone with a bad knee.
  • The goshala here is a good place to do gau-puja or grass seva if your family wants to.
  • Gokul is about 15 km from Mathura, so it is a drive rather than a stop — we usually fold it into the first morning.
